medifa supports healthcare provision in Africa
Together with the association "Operieren in Afrika", the medifa healthcare group supports health care in Burkina Faso with a manual mobile operating table medifa 5000 and accessories for various surgical disciplines.
"Operieren in Afrika" is a non-profit association that has been actively working to improve the health situation in Burkina Faso since 2001. In 2014, it opened its own surgical clinic, which was expanded in 2018 to include an obstetrics clinic. There are 20 African staff members in the clinics who provide basic care for the local population. The clinic also serves as a platform for surgical missions of one to two weeks for European specialists. During these periods, operations of various disciplines are performed and the African colleagues are trained and further educated.
"The operating theatre is fully equipped to be able to carry out even complex operations. This requires equipment that is robust, uncomplicated and can be operated with as little electronic control as possible without sacrificing comfort and safety. Initially, there was only one operating table available, which did not meet these requirements. Since last year, operating in Africa has been using a mechanical operating table from medifa, which has proven itself in daily use," says Prof. Dr. B. Rumstadt, the head physician of the surgical clinic and the Visceral Medicine Centre of the Evang Diakoniekrankenhaus Freiburg, who is committed to aid projects in Burkina Faso with his association "Operieren in Afrika" and also carries out voluntary surgeries there every year during his holidays.
"In extremely poor countries, such as Burkina Faso in Africa, children, women and men often have no access to urgently needed treatment. We are very pleased that we can make a contribution to the improvement of medical care in Burkina Faso," explains Dr. Wolfgang Hohnhaus, Managing Director of medifa healthcare group GmbH.
